Full Day outdoor Trip and Hike
Begin with the Devils Canyon Overlook, a spectacularly remote location overlooking a more than 1000 foot sheer canyon with the Bighorn mountains in the background. Wild Bighorn Sheep may be spotted in the area. Area is laced with many trails.
Then make your way to the tranquil Ewing Snell Historic Ranch Site for a self-guided tour of a ranch first built in 1896. Pit toilets on site.
From there make your way up to Upper Layout Creek Trailhead and hike along the creek up the marked trail to some spectacular views and true wilderness feel with a lush small waterfall at the top. This is a modest hike – proper footwear and gear recommended.
Area is known for its majestic wild horses -drive with care.

The Beartooth Highway is a breathtaking, high-altitude scenic byway that stretches 68 miles along U.S. Route 212 between Red Lodge, Montana, and the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Often called “the most beautiful drive in America,” it climbs to nearly 11,000 feet at Beartooth Pass and offers sweeping views of snowcapped peaks, alpine lakes, and vast wilderness.
The highway is usually open from late May to mid-October, depending on snow. It’s part of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, and the route is known for its dramatic switchbacks, rugged landscapes, and chance sightings of wildlife like mountain goats and marmots. It’s a favorite for photographers, bikers, and anyone seeking a stunning drive through the heart of the Rocky Mountains that inspires a deep appreciation for the wonders of Hashem’s world. .
Four Dances Recreation Area — just 2 miles east of downtown Billings on Coburn Road — is a 765‑acre BLM‑managed plateau known for its Native American history, geology, and sweeping views over the Yellowstone River .
